RESUMO
Neste artigo são apresentados os antecedentes históricos,
relacionados de forma imediata e mediata ao estabelecimento
do curso superior de medicina em Angola no século XIX.
São também descritas as condições
que propiciaram a reinstalação dos estudos de
medicina, na década de sessenta do século XX.
No último quarto do século XX, alterações
sociais profundas em Angola, reflectiram-se com aspectos benéficos,
entre os quais avulta o facto de terem sido formados 874 médicos
em 20 anos e outros, perturbadores à progressiva consolidação
da Faculdade de Medicina. Os principais aspectos perturbadores,
são analisados em detalhe, fazendo também recurso
às principais tendências internacionais sobre
o ensino médico. Finalmente, é sugerida a necessidade
da criação de um novo paradigma da existência
da Faculdade, tendo subjacentes bases conceptuais da sua missão
social, estruturação curricular, científica
e orgânica e protagonismo internacional.

ABSTRACT
In this article are presented the historical events which
were related to the establishment of medical studies in Angola
in XIX century. The conditions related to the reinstallation
of these studies in the sixties of the XX century are also
described. In the last quarter of the XX century, Angola underwent
deep social changes, which reflected themselves with benefits
in the Angolan medical school, e.g. 874 trained doctors in
20 years, but also with troubles regarding the progressive
consolidation of the medical school. Some of these troubles
are analysed in detail, specially under the international
recommendations on the field of medical studies. Eventually,
a new paradigm for the school is suggested, based on new approach
of its social mission, structure of the curriculum, management
of scientific and administrative issues and international
cooperation.
